I have been writing this blog for 7¾ years and during that time IBM has used the blue circular "i for business" logo for our favorite business operating system, IBM i.
Yesterday IBM launched a new logo for IBM i.
It is more simplistic just a rendering of operating system's name. And, yes, there is a space between the "IBM" and the "i".
Personally I like the new logo.
What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments below.
I like it, simple
ReplyDeleteLooks simple and nice
ReplyDeleteI like the 'IBM' in it.
ReplyDeleteI like it a lot. I thought it was a bit boring in the beginning, but now I think it looks just very modern and sends modern and positive signals.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen that before. I like it. I like the new icon for ACS too. Some good branding coming from IBM lately.
ReplyDeleteI really like the ACS logo too.
DeleteVery cool, changes are always welcome.
DeleteLike it too, however I enjoy the connection between IBM i and business. Let's hope we do not miss that one.
ReplyDeleteWell said.
DeleteBello
ReplyDeleteIt's simple but elegant along with the ACS logo.
ReplyDeleteIt's simple yet elegant along with the new ACS logo.
ReplyDeleteIt was bad when IBM decided to use a single character as a name, especially a character that gets autocorrected like "i". I know I'm not the only one who writes IBMi, IBM_i, or even "IBM i" because the single, lower cased "i" is offensive to my English mind.
ReplyDeleteThat's all water under the bridge now. If they are emphasizing that it is "IBM i" and not just "i", then maybe it is a good thing. Although, I'd hardly consider plain text to be an imaginative logo. When compared to the logo for ACS, it appears amateurish.
I agree. "IBM i" is okay at best. I would have preferred "IBMi" but agree that it is far too amateurish with just the plain text. Keeping the blue circle and change "i" to "IBMi" would have been nice.
DeleteYes, I like it too. It seems that IBM won't survive if it doesn't rename or change something...
ReplyDeleteIBMi (no space) would have been better for auto-correct purposes.
ReplyDeleteDid a primary school pupil win the "logo contest"?
ReplyDeleteWell, it's not creative at all but most definitely better than the "I for business" and I would eliminate the space and simply go for "IBMi" .
ReplyDeleteI don't think this counts as a logo. It's just text in a bland font on a white background.
ReplyDeleteGradients are a bit dated.
ReplyDeleteLike my Skoda: simply clever.
ReplyDeleteI like it,simple..
ReplyDeleteI would have dropped the space so it's more searchable and not an autocorrect headache but it'll do.
ReplyDeleteCurious if they did the same logo change for AIX (p) and zOS The one thing I think the former logo did is communicate to the upper management that IBMi is current and relevant. Let's hope the new dated gradiant simple icon can live up to, or further promote currency and relevancy.
ReplyDeleteThe logo was changed the logos for the other Power based operating systems: IBM i, AIX, and Linux.
DeleteYou can see the new AIX logo on their IBM website at -> https://www.ibm.com/it-infrastructure/power/os/aix
I have no idea if they are going to change the logo for IBM Z.

DeleteI don't see this logo on their site, where did you find it?
ReplyDeleteBeing an IBM Champion I get access to things, like the new logo, directly from IBM.
DeleteDictionary meaning of LOGO: a symbol or other design adopted by an organization to identify its products, uniform, vehicles, etc.
ReplyDeleteFAIL: not a logo, just some blu-ish text
Congratulations Simon!! You pulled my leg so hard, it fell off.
