All the celebrations to welcome in the New Year are drawing to a close, and we say farewell to an annus horribilis. I am sure I am not the only person wishing for 2021 to be the year where we can overcome this virus, and return to living more normal lives.
Despite the lock downs, social distancing, and working from home IBM has still brought us two Technology Refreshes for the supported releases of IBM i, 7.4 and 7.3. They have done a great job bringing many new features and functions. You can read about them here on this web site.
This brings me to the five most popular posts of 2020. These are the ones you thought were the most interesting:
- Delete many spool files with one command
- Adding subtotals and a total to a SQL Select
- Using SQL to look for record locks
- New version of ACS: 1.1.8.5
- Check if program is running interactive or batch
If your favorite post from last year is not listed let me know which one was, and how you used the information within it, in the comments section below.
Enough of dwelling on the past year. What anniversaries happen this year:
- 62 years: RPG programming language
- 33 years: AS/400, ancestor of the IBM i operating system
- 26 years: RPGLE (ILE RPG)
- 20 years: Free form calculations in RPG
- 8 years: Free form definitions in RPG
- 6 years: Totally free form RPG, or what I call RPG for i
This year is the eighth anniversary of this blog too!
Looking at all the charts I have seen from IBM I don't think we will have a new IBM i release this year, but I am not party to their decisions. I am sure there will be the customary two Technology Refreshes releases this year, one in the spring and the other in the fall. I get exicited about these as there are always new things added to this operating system we love.
Let's all raise a glass of our favorite beverage and make a toast to give thanks for IBM i and all good things that happened last year. Then raise a second glass in anticipation of what this year will bring to us all.
Simon,
ReplyDeleteThanks for all you do!
