A new year has started, and I am always excited to look back on the old year and forward to what the new year will bring.
The past few years have been an exciting time for IBM i community. Just in the life of this blog I have seen RPG undergo a radical make over, and numerous wonderful things added to Db2 for i, or SQL.
You feel the same as the most popular articles from 2018 have been:
- Creating a XML file
- Processing simple XML using XML-INTO
- Using RPG data structures with SQL insert and update
- Displaying more than one subfile at a time
- Copying any data to and from a file in the IFS
Have you liked others? If so which ones?
What of the future? This year has the following IBM i related anniversaries:
- 60th anniversary of the RPG programming language
- 31st anniversary of the launch of the AS400
- 24th anniversary of the launch of RPGLE
- 18th anniversary of the introduction of free form calculations in RPG
- 6th anniversary of free form definitions in RPG
- 4th anniversary of totally free RPG
And 2019 also includes the sixth anniversary of this blog.
It is customary for there to be two Technical Refreshes to be released every year, in the Spring and Fall to coincide with COMMON conferences. This is pure speculation: could there be a new release this year?
Let's all raise a glass of our favorite beverage and make a toast to give thanks for IBM i and all good things that happened last year. Then raise a second glass in anticipation of what this year will bring.
Happy New year Simon and thank you for your good posts about IBMi
ReplyDeleteHappy new year Simon sir.
ReplyDeleteWow, that crept on me... free format has been around for that long. Getting to be where we should not call it "new" any more.
ReplyDeleteYour prediction was correct. IBM i 7.4 released on 21st June!
