In my previous post I stated that IBM had removed the RPG400 user's guide and reference from the KnowledgeCenter.
Having performed a good deal of searching of the internet I have been able to find copies of both of these manuals in a dark corner of the IBM website. The manuals are from 2000. That may seem a long time ago for a "current" manual, but RPG3 has not been enhanced since RPG4 was introduced 23 years ago.
I have uploaded both of these PDF files to my Dropbox account, and you can reach them by using the following links:
Having given you these links I trust you will only refer to these manuals to remind yourself of some of the anachronisms of old RPG, rather than use to develop new code.
Are you sure IBM is okay with you posting the manuals in your dropbox account? I've been told their copyright prohibits people from posting copies of the manuals anywhere.
ReplyDeleteThe IBM-ers I have communicated with have not raised an objection to me doing this.
DeleteThank You. I need them to understand some old coded programs
ReplyDeleteI know I was concerned when I saw that these were not in the list of PDF manuals on the main page since at least 7.1. But there is good news!
ReplyDeleteThe older manuals are still available from the IBM site - see this page from the 7.4 Knowledge Center - https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/ssw_ibm_i_74/rzahg/linkbooks.htm
On that page is a list of the additional manuals, as well as a link to the IBM Publications Center, where one can download them for free.
More good news! Rational Developer for i has the RPG/400 Reference in its help. If you're in an RPG source member and press F1, you get the help.
ReplyDeleteThe manual itself is a bit hidden, as it's not in the IBM i 7.4 section, it's in the Rational Developer for i 9.6.0 (or earlier, perhaps) section.
There is also a reference to the IBM Publications site.
The F1 help in RDi is fantastic!
