Today marks the fifth anniversary of this blog. These five years have been an exciting time for IBM i, and I have been fortunate to have been able to write about many of the wonderful features and functions that have been added to this operating system. Over these years I have written over 450 posts, and if I had to select five of my most favorite things I have written about, and frequently use, they would be:
- Free format definitions in RPG
- Full free RPG allowing the code to start in the first column of the source member and end wherever.
- Using SQL in CL.
- The SQL table function that allows me to search the History log.
- Audit columns on files/tables that Db2 for i updates for me.
I am going to add a sixth, even though I do not use it as frequently as those above, I do see it as a "game changer".
One the reasons I keep going is the wonderful feedback I received from many of you. I thank all of you very much who have taken the time to send me feelings about this web site.
I need to say a special vielen Dank to the folks at RZKH for allowing me to use one of their IBM i partitions. Without them I would not have a place to write all the code examples I have shared.
This year I have noticed that RPGPGM.COM has been receiving traffic from China. This is, in my opinion, excellent news, as previously it had been blocked by the Great Firewall of China for many years.
As I mentioned last year I am a geography geek, so it was exciting to discover that people from these countries had visited this web site for the first time in the past year:
- Bahamas
- Cape Verde
- Congo - Kinshasa
- Cook Islands
- Mali
- Sint Maarten
- Tajikistan
This brings the total to 214 countries! (I do not count Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man, and the Åland Islands as countries)
I also want to thank you for reading this blog. Without you there is no point in me writing this blog.
