A new draft of the IBM Redbook "Who Knew You Could Do That with RPG IV? Modern RPG for the Modern Programmer", completed October 20 2016, has been made available. I recognize many of the authors as people I respect as highly knowledgeable in the use of modern RPG.
The chapters cover many items which should interest anyone using, or wanting to learn, modern RPG:
- Introduction to RPGIV
- Programming RPGIV with style
- Subprocedures
- ILE guide for the RPG programmer
- Application programming interfaces
- Database access with RPGIV
- Exception and error handling
- Interfaces
- IBM Rational Developer for IBM i
- Modern RPG comparison as viewed from a young developer
This 390 page manual is available for download as a PDF document here. If you are going to print it I would only print the first 385 pages.
I can see that this is going to the top of my bedtime reading list.
Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi simon
ReplyDeleteI tried the link and fails. The correct link is:
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg245402.html
Thank you for letting me know. It is not the first time that IBM has changed the URL in the Redbooks without redirecting the old URL to the new. I have changed the link within the post to go directly to the PDF file.
Deleteit seems that the page: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg245402.html is not reachable
ReplyDeleteI know the link worked yesterday as I printed a copy of the Redbook for a coworker.
DeleteI have just gone to the Redbook site and followed all through the various pages and the PDF does not open when the relevant link is clicked on.
All I can suggest is to try later. hopefully IBM will have fixed whatever issue they are having.
Go to the Abstract page and click on the link to the PDF at the top of the page.
ok,
Deleteand thanks for the answer.
